To help you prepare for the final assessment that will start at the end of tomorrow's class period and continue into Friday see the following preparation sheet: Climate Change Summative Assessment Prep

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Don't forget to work on those rough drafts for all three questions for our Atmosphere, Weather and Climate Essay Summative Assessment.  If you need more research information please refer to your text book:

1.  Read pages 240-251.  Add useful notes to your colored papers.  Insert that information into your rough drafts where appropriate.
a.  Pages 240-244 will help with Question #1
b.  Pages 244-245 will help with Question #2
c.  Pages 246-247 will help with Question #3

Monday, December 16, 2013

This Friday (and possibly a bit of Thursday) we will be sitting down in class and silently writing our final drafts for our Summative Essay Questions about climate.  You may have your rough drafts with you during the writing session.  If you're looking for more resources to help you formulate your essays check out your textbook.  There is great information on pages 240-251.

Friday, December 13, 2013

We're plugging along on the Atmosphere, Weather and Climate Summative Assessment.  Over the weekend students should finish up their Question 1 rough draft.  If you want to jump the gun you can work on researching for question 2 (the gold paper).  What should your paragraph look like?

1.  Start with an "attention driver" or "hook".
2.  Then write a topic or thesis statement (A very general answer to the question itself).
3.  Details, Details! Now use your research on your purple paper to write the body of your paragraph.
4.  Wrap it up! with a concluding sentence.

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Quiz tomorrow on STEM vocab.  Vocab words include: tradeoff, constraint, solution, design, criteria, problem and priorities.  Make sure you put together your packet in the proper order!

Monday, October 21, 2013

We're finishing up our STEM water filter lab.  Students did a great job of figuring out what worked and certainly what didn't!  Test re-takes for the Water Cycle test have ended today.  Anyone who has not retaken the test will be missing their elective and making up their work and test in Mr. Mallory's class.

Took the test on Surface and Ground Water.  If you were absent please see me to make it up.

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Tomorrow is the test on Ground and Surface Water!!! Today you received a study guide and had the entire class period to work on it.  In addition to the study guide remember that these are the things the classes decided you needed to know:

Vocab: surface water, channel, tributary, watershed, divide gradient, flow, stream load, precipitation, runoff, aquifer, porosity, permeability, recharge, discharge, water table, infiltration.

Skills:  Accurately label a diagram showing the vocab above,
Determine and explain how gradient can affect flow and stream load
Determine which Earth has more of:  Fresh or salt water, ground or surface water
List and/or explain uses of ground and surface water (page 38)
Explain how porosity and permeability affect infiltration
Explain how the loss of water can have an effect on societies (Think Syria, but you can also refer to page 39).

Friday, October 4, 2013

Gearing up for a Final Assessment on Wednesday.  Format is to be determined by the individual classes.  We'll start preparing for this on Monday, but until then study pages 31-39.

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Don't forget that tomorrow during your lunch is the last day for your 1st retake of the Properties of Water test!

This is what we did in class and your homework if you didn't finish it:

Finish Google Map if you didn't finish in class.

1.  Go to google maps and find your house in Newberg (doens't have to be precise).  Mark it on the paper map
2.  Identify and trace the nearest divide with a dotted line
3.  Identify and trace the nearest tributary with a colored pencil
4.  Describe in a sentence the gradient and what you think the flow and stream load are like in the tributary you traced.
5.  Trace the tributary all the way to the Willamette River.

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

This is what we did today.  Make sure you have your definitions on page 42-43 on the Notes page.
