1.  Turned in Online Density Lab

2.  Passage Analysis of pages 116-118 (We use highlighters to pick out the main idea, vocabulary and details of various passages.  We did one together.  Students should do the rest of the pages on their own).

3.  Tentatively there will be a test Next Friday Nov. 8th

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

I have a new tab (see above). It's a test schedule with dates for the next test.  You'll find the study guide for these tests there as well.  This should not be confused with Retake schedules.
Today we finished our Density Lab, if you did not finish in class this is homework.  You should be able to now explain WHY hot air rises!!

If you received a retake form from me today for the Surface and Ground Water test, please start prepping! You have until November 8th.  Check the Test Retake information tab above.

Monday, October 28, 2013

Today we did a density lab.

You can find the worksheet here:

For those of you assigned the Alternative Assignment you do not have to do pages 1-4, only page 5.  You know who you are.

Also, due to extreme business Mrs. Adkins is now adopting "Office Hours".  Please see the board under the Homework section for my hours of availability. Please plan accordingly! This week they are:

Monday (today): lunch and after school
Tuesday: None
Wednesday: Lunch
Thursday: Lunch
Friday: After school

Took the quiz today on STEM vocab.

Began studying the atmosphere by watching Felix Baumgartner's 2012 jump from a balloon at 127,852 feet!!!!  Here's a link to the website:  redbullstratos.com   We watched a simulation of the jump and explored the mission, making connections to science and the atmosphere along the way.

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Quiz tomorrow on STEM vocab.  Vocab words include: tradeoff, constraint, solution, design, criteria, problem and priorities.  Make sure you put together your packet in the proper order!

Monday, October 21, 2013

We're finishing up our STEM water filter lab.  Students did a great job of figuring out what worked and certainly what didn't!  Test re-takes for the Water Cycle test have ended today.  Anyone who has not retaken the test will be missing their elective and making up their work and test in Mr. Mallory's class.

10/18/13

Wow! Today was a whirlwind.  Students did a great job of building filters and testing them.  Too bad the Turbidity Sensor only worked for 1st period!!!! We'll figure something out.  On Monday we'll be putting together a second filter so think about what you would like to do differently!

10/16/13

Today we focused on our STEM vocab.  Some of you came in to retake the water cycle test. Great job! Unfortunately, many of you forgot to put your names on your papers.  If you come in tomorrow morning and you're one of those people I'll know you read this and you'll get a treat!  Tomorrow we'll begin our Water Filter Lab!  Hooray!

10/15/13

Today we continued our car buying activity completing our worksheet (either in class or as homework).  Hoping to start designing and building our filters for our STEM filtration lab starting Thursday and Friday.

Monday, October 14, 2013

10/14/13

Today we took a STEM vocabulary pre-test.  Then we began looking at the process of engineering by comparing it to the process of buying a car.  We looked at what constraints, criteria, and priorities mean.

10/09/13

Took the test on Surface and Ground Water.  If you were absent please see me to make it up.

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Tomorrow is the test on Ground and Surface Water!!! Today you received a study guide and had the entire class period to work on it.  In addition to the study guide remember that these are the things the classes decided you needed to know:

Vocab: surface water, channel, tributary, watershed, divide gradient, flow, stream load, precipitation, runoff, aquifer, porosity, permeability, recharge, discharge, water table, infiltration.

Skills:  Accurately label a diagram showing the vocab above,
Determine and explain how gradient can affect flow and stream load
Determine which Earth has more of:  Fresh or salt water, ground or surface water
List and/or explain uses of ground and surface water (page 38)
Explain how porosity and permeability affect infiltration
Explain how the loss of water can have an effect on societies (Think Syria, but you can also refer to page 39).

Friday, October 4, 2013

Gearing up for a Final Assessment on Wednesday.  Format is to be determined by the individual classes.  We'll start preparing for this on Monday, but until then study pages 31-39.

10/01/13

Today we:

1.  Finished our Porosity and Permeability Labs (writing conclusions)
2.  Read pages 36-37 and created a graphic organizer using the words:  Porosity, Permeability, Recharge, Discharge, Surface water, Aquifer, Groundwater.
